Moving in Basel
In the city it is not the distance that decides the duration, but the route between the flat door and the vehicle.
Basel is more demanding for a move than the numbers suggest. A three room flat on the third floor of a period building without a lift takes considerably more time than the same flat in a new build with a goods lift and an underground garage. That is why we ask about the floor, the lift and the parking options in advance instead of throwing a flat fee at you.
In the neighbourhoods around the city centre, stopping directly outside the building is often not a given. Where there is no space, a temporary no parking zone usually requires a permit from the city. Let us know early if the situation is tight and we will plan the appointment accordingly.
From our base in Bottmingen we are in the city within minutes. For moves within Basel that means short distances between the two addresses and very little empty running.
What we watch for in Basel
- Period buildings with narrow staircases: furniture gets dismantled rather than forced
- No lift in the building: this affects the duration more than the driving distance
- Clarify parking outside the building in advance, otherwise carrying distance eats the hours
- Underground garages: the clearance height has to suit the vehicle
